Amy Poehler has opened up about what it is like for her to be in a relationship at the age of 40 plus.

"I find my relationships at 40-plus are really emulsified, juicy relationships, because you have more of a sense of who you are and who you want to be around," the 43-year-old actress told People after her Harvard Book Club appearance to promote her new book "Yes Please" at the Back Bay Events Center in Boston, Wednesday, Oct. 29.

"Talented men are not threatened by talented women. They welcome them," the "Parks and Recreation" star explained. "And same way with real men. If you're a strong woman and your man likes that, then he's a real man. If you're with someone who asks you to turn your light down, he's a weaker person and you should get away from him."

The "Saturday Night Live" alum was married to Will Arnett in August 2003. The two stars share two sons: Archibald William, 6, and Abel James, 4. But in September 2012, Poehler and Arnett announced that they were ending their nine-year marriage, according to Us Weekly.

In "Yes Please," the Golden Globe-winning actress, who is now dating Nick Kroll, opened up about his split with will Arnett.

"Imagine spreading everything you care about on a blanket and then tossing the whole thing up in the air," Poehler wrote, as quoted by Hello! magazine. "The process of divorce is about loading that blanket, throwing it up, watching it all spin, and worrying what stuff will break when it lands."

"When you are a person going through a divorce you feel incredibly alone, yet you are constantly reminded by society of how frequently divorce happens and how common it has become," the actress added. "You aren't allowed to feel special, but no one knows the specific ways you are in pain."

Poehler did not reveal the specifics about their breakup in her book, but she did write that the reasons behind the split are "too sad" and "too personal" to talk about.

At the book event, Poehler also talked about the trials of growing older, particularly as a public figure.

"We're a really youth-obsessed culture, and I'm in a business that's especially bananas," said Poehler. "Hollywood is the moon. It's a really weird place. As a culture, we're obsessed with youth, and we don't celebrate enough of the amazing gifts and cool things that happen when you get older."
