Funny gal Amy Poehler stunned on the red carpet this past week at the Emmys. Her stylist, Alex Polillo gave us her step-by-step breakdown on Poehler's hair and how we can recreate this golden crown right at home.

"For last Monday night's look, we decided to keep hair fun, playful and a little edgy, letting the dress stand out," Polillo explained.

"Since it is a big event, I knew her hair needed to shine but at the same time, stay understated. Leaving the and straight, and alternating between two different types of wave helped me keep the balance."

Here's how to copy Amy's exact red carpet hair, straight from the hairstyling expert herself:

"Start with freshly washed and towel dried hair, select a part and brush out," Alex said.  Polillo suggests trying überliss shampoo and conditioner ($23, $25) when you wash your hair.

"Apply überliss Rituoil ($20) serum to the damp hair and blow dry smooth with a medium sized round brush to add slight volume at the root. For a added volume at the crown, add 2-3 Velcro rollers," Polillo instructed.

Taking 1" sections, alternate between the T3 SinglePass Whirl Wand ($130) and the T3 SinglePass Compact Flat Iron ($79) to create a slight wave or a 'S' shaped wave with the flat iron.

"Use a liberal amount of Serge Normant Meta-Revive Dry Shampoo ($15) at the root for messy volume," Alex told us.

Polillo then pieced out Amy's ends with Kevin Murphy Undressed Fiber Paste ($33) and finished with Leonor Greyl Voluforme Hairspray ($36). Easy and done!
