As we continue to mourn the death of Damon and Bonnie from "The Vampire Diaries" season 5 finale, Ian Somerhalder recently talked about what he would like to see happen for his real life ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev's character Elena.

According to Entertainment Wise, after Damon failed to make it back from The Other Side fans were left wondering if Delena would ever have a chance at love again.

While we will have to wait until the fall to get a direct answer, Ian Somerhalder hinted that Damon, Elena and Stefan may find harmony in the new season.

During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, he spoke about returning in season six. The CW star said, "Damon, Stefan, and Elena, they're all extraordinarily different people, but hopefully, what happens is that in some crazy, cohesive way, they all get to live their lives in a very harmonious way."

However, Somerhalder acknowledge that this can of course be a problem considering the premise of the series.

He explained, "The problem is, it's Mystic Falls, and harmony does not work within this spectrum, so it's probably going to be more jagged and somewhat abrasive.

"There'll be bits and pieces layered in there that are going to be pretty and soft, but ultimately, if you're happy in Mystic Falls, there's no drama, and if there's no drama, there's no show."

His former girlfriend Nina Dobrev agreed, admitting that she too wants her character to experience true happiness.

While talking about Elena she said, "She's really blossomed into this strong woman since the show began, so I'm excited to see her hopefully have a departure and a closure from this world.

"Hopefully that means she'll get everything she ever wanted, which was really just a family, and stability, and love, and her friends, and everyone's safety."
