A new report is claiming that following her split from John Mayer, Katy Perry has been hooking up with good friend Robert Pattinson.

According to Hollywood Life, following his break up with Kristen Stewart the "Twilight heartthrob and the "Dark Horse" singer were nearly inseparable for weeks even though the stars insisted they were just friends.

However, now that the "Fireworks" singer has gone through a break up of her own and a new report is alleging that their friendship is turning into a steamy hookup.

A source told OK! Magazine that the friendship has the potential to develop into something more.

The source admitted, "Rob has made [Katy] promise to count on him for support, like she did for him when he split for Kristen Stewart," adding, "The question is, how much comforting will go - they always had this really flirtatious relationship."

Although the Pattinson has been busy filming and Perry has been on an Australian promo tour, the pair was able to find time for each other at the end of March.

A source revealed, "He's already proving to be a total rock for her."

Considering they have a strong friendship many of their pals believe that a romance will not form between the two stars.

An insider said, "They are two beautiful, flirty and charismatic people and when outsiders look at it, that makes it look like they must hook up."

However, the source explained, "But the truth is they have always been with someone so they have become great friends instead. Anytime that it had the chance to become more has passed."

Apparently the Dior model doesn't not see the California girl as more than a friend. A pal confessed, "Rob has absolutely no interest in hooking up with Katy."

Another insider added, "They are close friends, but that's it. She was there for Rob when he split with Kristen and he's been helping her deal with getting over John, like offering advice, but that's it."
