It seems like there are no hard feelings between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder following their split as "The Vampire Diaries" couple finally addressed their break up in real life while at the 40th Annual People's Choice Awards on Wednesday, January 8th.

The costars won the award for "Favorite Onscreen Chemistry" for their roles on the show as Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore on the hit CW show.

According to Us Weekly, upon taking the stage to accept their award, the 24-year-old at the time and 35-year-old recalled some shared history. The actor kicked off the speech and said, "Wow, this is crazy! Can you believe this is almost five years in the making?"

Nina Dobrev added, "You're right, yeah!" But you know what's funny, Ian, is that at the beginning of the show, Elena actually hated Damon."

"You were hooking up with my brother!" he replied, referring to Elena's fan favorite romance with Stefan Salvatore who is played by actor Paul Wesley.

"Well, you killed my brother," she retorted referring to the brief death of Steven R. McQueen's character Jeremy.

Ian Somerhalder continued the speech and said, "We started dating in real life."

"And then we broke up in real life," she added.

"And yet our characters are still dating on the show," he quipped.

"It's a good thing it's not awkward!" Dobrev joked, as the two subtly moved away from each other and pretended to look uncomfortably at the floor.

As laughs erupted from the audience the two held up their awards and the actress gushed, "It's a good thing we have chemistry!"

Heavy applause roared with approval as Somerhalder pulled his ex-girlfriend close and brought her in for a kiss on the cheek.

Even through the couple broke up last May after more than three years of dating the actor still loves the starlet as he not only spent the first hours of her special day with her but also took to Twitter to wish her a happy 25th birthday on January 9th.

He tweeted, "Happy Birthday @ninadobrev !!! The world loves you!We all do;) Enjoy the moment, enjoy the day, enjoy the year!"
