News broke recently that a California surgeon had performed unwanted plastic surgery on a patient in Orange County. Reportedly, the doctor was looking to overbill the person's insurance company, resulting in a nightmare for the patient.

According to the Orange County district attorney's office, the doctor in Newport Beach was only scheduled to do a nose job, but proceeded to add on unneccessary operations for monetary gain, reported the Los Angeles Times.

The surgeon's name is Jay Calvert, 45, reported the newspaper.

Prosecutors also allege that Calvert lied under oath during court proceedings, which were related to the victim's August 2010 civil lawsuit against him. The patient had sued the surgeon over the rhinoplasty.

Calvert supposeldy did the unwarranted surgeries in 2009. His goal? To overcharge the victim's insurance company for a lump sum of more than $40,000.

And becase of the surgeon's alleged greed, the patient suffered long-term medical harm, said prosecutors in the case.

The LA Times reported that a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office declined to elaborate on what the extra medical procedures were as a way to protect the patient's privacy.

Calvert faces one felony count each of medical insurance fraud, manufacturing documents to support the fraudulent bill and perjury, reported the Daily Pilot.

If convicted, the surgeon could go behind bars for six years and eight months in a state prison, according to the district attorney's office.
