It has come to attention that the number of children getting plastic surgery in the United States has been on the rise for several years. What is the reason you may ask? Well experts blame it all on bullying.
According to ABC News, children as young as 6-years-old are going under the knife because they do not want to become a target and parents are more than willing to help their kid out if it means they will avoid a more difficult life.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons stated that plastic surgeries for children have increased around 30 percent in the last decade due to bullying.
Fox News spoke with Dr. Frederick Lukash of the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, who specializes in operations for children and teens. The surgeon does various procedures ranging from pinning back ears to removing moles.
However, Lukash admitted that before every surgery he asks his patients to draw pictures of how they see themselves.
As a result the client often draws their perception of an ugly person which experts insists are associated with real-life bullying that they are currently dealing with.
Although parents truly believe that plastic surgery will help make life easier for their child some doctors disagree with this current trend.
Dr. Nava Silton, who is a child psychologist, said that the decision to go through with plastic surgery is only covering up bigger problems such as a child's lack of self-confidence.
Silton suggested that parents and communities work together to ensure that children are being treated and not being bullied instead of allowing the child to go under the knife.
However, Lukash, who has written on the matter said that plastic surgery is an important option for children to have.
