Things are heating up on "Scandal" season 3 as Mellie invited Olivia Pope back into the White House and into her and Fitz's lives. With the premiere of episode 7, "Everything's Coming Up Mellie," a few hours away cast member Bellamy Young dished some juicy spoilers for her character.
According to TVLine, in the upcoming episode that is set to air on Thursday night, Mellie is going above and beyond to make sure she remains a resident of the most famous house in Washington.
Young told the site that this week her character is forced to improve her image among the citizens in the United States.
She explained, "It's Mellie trying to win back America's hearts after they blamed her for Fitz's adultery. So, she's doing a documentary in the style of Jackie O, trying to curry favor by giving the public a behind-the-scenes tour of the White House."
The actress revealed that we will also see a flash back of Cyrus Beene.
She said, "Cyrus is more focused on Fitz, sizing him up as a candidate and deciding whether or not to hitch his wagon to Fitz's future.
"But what you will get is Jeff Perry in a spectacular bit of wiggage. If people just tuned in to see that, it would almost be worth it."
When we aren't seeing Cyrus living in the past we can rest assured that he and Mellie are scheming for the future and Sally Langston's hands on husband is a definite target to get ahead.
Bellamy Young explained, "I can assure you that knowledge is power, and that Mellie and Cyrus will capitalize on that bit of knowledge. They know that Sally has a weakness, and you do not want to show a weakness to Mellie or to Cyrus."
The star added, "The storyline is worth the wait. You find out a lot this week."
The actress explained that her character is deeply in pain each time President Fitz looks lovingly at Olivia Pope.
She said, "Every time is like a needle in the eye. Every time he gives Olivia a look that Mellie's never seen... that's a horrible, horrible thing to see happening in a man that you're married to. It's the greatest pain."
The show's creator Shonda Rhimes recently hinted that the show is on a timer and will eventually come to an end.
Although, Young admitted that she isn't quite sure what Rhimes has in mind for the series' end, she did reveal that she hopes her character ends up happy.
She said, "I'm greedy, so I want both. I want her happy. In my perfect world, I'm president and Fitz is the First Gentleman and he loves me."
However, she said, "As we said on our show, life is not a fairy tale. So, golly, I don't know. But knowing Mellie, she's a born survivor. She's born to fight. I think she would choose Fitz, because he is a harder get and she's always going to try for the brass ring."
Scandal airs Thursday night at 10 p.m. on ABC.
