A year following his divorce from Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise appeared in court to defend his good name as being an attentive father to his daughter Suri Cruise.
During his court deposition the "Oblivion" actor revealed that his belonging to the controversial Church of Scientology was one of the reasons why his former wife filed for divorce and moved out with their daughter.
According to Hollywood Life, for the first time Tom Cruise admitted that one of the reasons why the "Mania Days" actress filed for divorce was to remove their child, Suri Cruise, away from his religion.
During the September 9th trial for an lawsuit against a cover story with Bauer Media and In Touch magazine, that claimed the actor abandoned his daughter following his split with her mother, it was revealed that Scientology was a contributing factor for their divorce.
According to Radar Online, Cruise was asked, "The question is whether you believe the published contentions that Katie Holmes left you in part to protect Suri from Scientology, whether those are false."
The lawyer later added, "Do you believe that is a false statement?"
The actor said, "I believe it is a false statement."
The follow-up question asked, "And Miss Holmes has never indicated in any way that that was one of the reasons that she left you?"
Cruise responded, "That is - that she left me because of?"
"To protect Suri from Scientology," the examiner said.
"Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes," Tom Cruise revealed.
Even though he willingly admitted that one of the reasons Katie Holmes divorced him was due to his religion the actor was still upset over the claims that Scientology is something that Suri would need to be protected from.
He explained, "I find it, those statements offensive. Like with any relationship, there are many different levels to it," adding, "You know, I, I find it very offensive. There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion."
