Many fans were devastated when "The Vampire Diaries" stars real life couple Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder split but now it seems like the pair are back on good terms and are working on their friendship.

On Monday the actor who plays Damon Salvatore on the CW hit series posted a picture of his ex-girlfriend's Cosmopolitan Magazine cover on his Instagram account with the caption, "In a store this morning-who do I see? The one & only @ninadobrev These things are almost gone so If you haven't gotten this magazine off of a shelf-get one. One word: Stunning... Congrats Nina! Xo Ian."

Dobrev was grateful for the compliment and wrote via Twitter, "Thank you Smouldy :))) @iansomerhalder."

The actress also sent well wishes her ex-boyfriend's way as he asked for prayers for his dog prior to surgery.

He wrote via Instagram, "Pls send some positive vibes for my little girl, Nietzsche who goes under the knife to be Spayed in a few minutes!STOP OVERPOPULATION-SPAY AND NEUTER Thank you!"

To which the "Let's be Cops" star wrote, "Awww poor little Nietzsche ... Goodluck kiddo! "@iansomerhalder"

Although there is no news on whether or not Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder will get back together, the actress did hint at a possible reconciliation between her character and her ex-love Stefan Salvatore for the show.

According to Perez Hilton, in a recent interview Dobrev said that when it came to Elena's emotions, "She has this weird feeling something is going on. It's this cosmic connection you have with someone that you've spent so much time with and I don't know if that will go away.

"She knows she's in love with Damon, but she still cares for Stefan and wants to make sure he's OK...and when she finds out what he's been through, it's not easy for her."
