Many fans were worried that following the real life split between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, things would be awkward for "The Vampire Diaries" season 5 stars, but it seems like the crew is working on getting the pair far away from each other.
According to E! News, CW actor Shaun Sipos, who played on "Life Unexpected" and "Melrose Place," has been cast in the upcoming season of "The Vampire Diaries."
Slated as a new recurring character in season five, Sipos will play Aaron, a young man who comes to college to escape his tortured past.
While there he will meet Elena and the two will form a bond over the fact that they've both experience and survived dark family tragedies.
E! News has alleged that the actor may stay on the show for longer than just a couple of episodes.
Although it is not confirmed that Aaron will become a possible love interest for Elena, we can't see how her friendship with a handsome guy won't cause a problem in her and Damon's relationship.
However, fans who are team Delena should know that we will definitely see their romance play out for a little bit.
In a previous interview, creator Julie Plec spilled about the characters' future in season 5. She said, "It's a time jump. Summer has passed in which poor Stefan has been suffering at the bottom of the quarry and Damon and Elena have been having hot lovin' sex.
"We found a stylized way to show the audience how things went over the summer, what everybody was up to."
"The biggest hurdles in their relationship come from external sources, people, ideas, notions that are trying to say they're not supposed to be together. It's really going to be more about them fighting to prove that they should be together and it's okay."
So what do you think, TVD fans? Now that between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalde broke up is it splitsville for Damon and Elena next? Leave us your thoughts below.
