Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder may have faced a break up in real life but their "Vampire Diaries" season 5 characters Elena and Damon are very much in love.

In the latest promo for the CW hit series, Dobrev's character can be seen telling her real life ex-boyfriend character, "I love you," to which he responds, "And I love you."

However, it seems like their bliss won't last too long as we see Elena's doppelganger Katherine Pierce return as a human while Paul Wesley returns as Silas posing as Stefan.

During San Diego Comic Con, Digital Spy reported that Wesley was excited about the new storyline. He said, "I love the challenge and I love that Stefan is in the bottom of a lake. I love him, but at the same time, I feel like I need a little space from Stefan right now."

The actor added, "I'm not looking forward to the extra hours and having to work all day. But yeah, I am. It's definitely a challenge. I've never done anything like this before."

According to Entertainment Wise, Somerhalder admitted to the celebrity news site that at times his role as Damon Salvatore has a personal effect on him.

He said, "Don't for a second think it's always cotton candy. Sometimes it really hurts, and a lot of stuff that Damon goes through is super cathartic for me as an individual. It's not always pretty - it stirs up stuff."

Somerhalder continued, "You are basically muddying the water all the time. You are pulling from all these things in your life that are not necessarily good, so it's basically like getting paid for therapy instead of going and sitting in someone's chair and going, 'Tell me about how you feel.'"

Nina Dobrev's ex-boyfriend went on to confess, "It's not always fun. Sometimes it's brutal and I'll walk off set and I'll cry for ten minutes alone in my trailer and I look at myself in the mirror and go, 'What the hell are you doing? Why are you crying in the trailer? Go have a coffee or something.'

"But for me, that's acting - that's what I do every day. It's pretty weird."

While Ian Somerhalder has been busy crying in his trailer, his ex-girlfriend has been taking photos with a mystery man and posting the photos and video of the pair on her Instagram and Whosay account.
