It's a new year, a new me for Rihanna as she surprised her fans with a massive transformation.

From her long and luscious hair, the "Umbrella" hitmaker wowed her 89.9 million followers by donning a short black mullet.

2020 has brought unexpected hair trends, including the mullet. As seen with David Bowie and Billy Ray Cyrus back in the 60s and 70s, the haircut features a long back while keeping it short at the back and sides.

Interestingly, it has made a comeback but with a modern twist.

Over Rihanna's Instagram, the award-winning singer showcased a pixie-like front as she keeps it a tad bit long at the back.

Her new look was also in preparation for her upcoming Savage x Fenty's Valentine collection.

"Cupid could NEVA!" she wrote, alongside a hashtag that says "Valentine's Day Countdown."

Wearing a bold red lip, the "Take a Bow" singer donned in a sexy black bralette, paired with a sheer skirt that showcased a lace criss-cross back.

She then capped off her look with sheer gloves for that Valentine ready look. According to the brand's website, most of her lingerie collection pieces range from $40 to nearly $10 for her laced gloves.

Rihanna's Mullet Over the Years

Interestingly, it is not the first time that nine-time Grammy winner rocked a mullet.

Back in 2013, Rihanna was seen sporting the trend for the very first time. However, unlike her recent hairstyle, it was shorter and edgier.

She even sometimes styles it with a mohawk. Surprisingly, Riri had it on and off for almost a decade.

At the time, she described her mullet phase as her "ghetto goth" era, often seen wearing bold lippies such as red, silver-blue.

In 2014, the Barbados-born songstress wowed the crowd with her dark red lipstick and silver dress at a New York Fashion Week.

It is safe to say that the Fenty Beauty owner can rock any hairstyle she wants, may it be a short bob haircut during her "Umbrella" music video or her mid-length red hair during 2015's Met Gala.

Celebrities Who Rocked Mullets in 2020

Aside from Rihanna, other stars who joined the mullet trend are Miley Cyrus, "Euphoria" star Barbie Ferreira and Finn Wolfhard with her '70s-inspired shaggy mullet.

Last but not least is British model, Cara Delevingne who debuted a blonde mullet at the Savage X Fenty show last year.
