"The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 is yet to start airing on The CW, but actor Ian Somerhalder is already hinting that this might be the final run of the show, which is rumored to make Stefan and Caroline's romance the main plot and moving force in the wake of Damon's death.

The hunky 35-year-old TV actor recently had an interview with Digital Spy magazine, and he somehow spoiled a little bit too much when he gushed that the sixth season of "Vampire Diaries" could be the final season of the show, Movie Pilot has learned.

"It very well could be our last [season] I think now that there's a finality to it, everyone's really realizing that this is a very important time in our lives. We created some very cool storytelling," Somerhalder said.

Though it isn't clear whether Somerhalder's bold statement could be true, loyal fans shouldn't really be worried since TVD big boss Julie Plec is singing a different tune, accoring to Entertainment Wise.

"I think the show will go as long as the actors want the show to go," Plec said, adding, "You know, look, everybody's under contract. I know that we've got plans for season six, we've got plans for season seven. I know that our bosses have plans for seasons eight, nine, and 10."

"I said I want to be part of it as long as I know I could keep telling good stories and as long as the ensemble people that I work with want to be there and are committed and dedicated," Plec gushed. "So, so far so good, you know. We'll see how long we can stay, doing it well. We'll make sure that we don't start sucking."

On other TVD news, spoilers reveal ahead of the Season 6 premiere that Stefan and Caroline's romance is going to be the moving force of the forthcoming season, according to International Business Times.

"Her romance with Stefan will become a major part of her Season 6 storyline, even if that romance isn't exactly a two-way street. She's going to realize it's a little more one-sided than she was hoping, and there's going to be some fallout from that," show executive producer Caroline Dries said.

Stefan and Caroline's romantic storyline is expected to blossom in the wake of Damon's passing.

"Well, for one, when someone dies they're dead for good, they can't come back. They're dead, they're gone since there's no place for them to come back from. So that's going to be one of the main repercussions of the other side disappearing," lead actress Nina Dobrev gushed about the big predicament her character Elena might be facing following Damon's death.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 is set to premiere this October.
