"The Vampire Diaries" season 6's trailer has finally been released and what is to come will definitely break your heart.

Fans of the show are all aware that Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder, passed away last season and this has kept everyone guessing what the show's fate would be.

But what is more interesting is how Elena Gilbert, played by actress Nina Dobrev, will cope with yet another loss from her immediate circle.

In the trailer, Elena addresses the death of Damon in the most painfully excruciating way possible. Not only is she losing her friends one by one, she's also losing herself throughout the entire process.

At this year's Comic-Con event, Dobrev confirmed that the first episode of this season, which will air on October 6 on CW, will focus on her mental state following Damon's death, according to Hypable.

To make things even more interesting, at some point in the 30-second trailer, Damon was featured in Elena's hallucinations and what he said will make you tear up, Zap2It reported.

"You have to let me go," he said.

So does this mean that Damon will be the one to go next season?

Multiple sources previously claimed that at least one of the three main actors on "The Vampire Diaries" will no longer return for season 7.

Executive producer Julie Plec spoke at the Comic Con event and said, "Everybody's under contract. I know that we've got plans for season six, we've got plans for season 7. I know that our bosses have plans for season eight, nine and ten. I said I want to be part of it as long as I know I could keep telling good stories and as long as the ensemble people that I work with want to be there and are committed and dedicated. So, so far so good, you know."
