Demi Lovato has famously talked about her difficult times in life including her struggles with drugs and alcohol.

However, now that the "Heart Attack" singer who is rumored to be dating Wilmer Valderrama again has gotten her life on track she has been sharing more details about her troubled times.

According to Us Weekly, back in October 2010, Demi Lovato pulled out of the Jonas Brothers Live in Concert tour in order to check into a rehab treatment facility for "physical and emotional issues."

Ever since she left the center in January 2011 she has dedicated her career to becoming a role model to fans. Many troubled stars whose problems play out in the public eye declared that they are not "role models" however the "X Factor" judge thinks differently.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Demi Lovato explained why she chooses to be a role model despite her flaws. In the November 15th issue the "Skyscraper" singer, 21, said, "I used to say that too."

"That was my excuse to do whatever the f*** I wanted and not give a s*** about what other people thought. Then I ended up going through some stuff. I realized I'm never going to escape the fact that I'm in the public eye, so I might as well do the best I can."

The starlet who worked closely with Disney's boy band The Jonas Brothers both on tour and in the films "Camp Rock" and "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam" also starred in her own series "Sonny with a Chance" when she first entered rehab.

Reflecting back on the dark time in her life Lovato said, "When I was in treatment, I honestly thought my career was over," adding, "But when I came out of treatment, I had more supportive fans than ever."

Selena Gomez's best friend who has been quite successful since her stint in rehab, is set to release a book of daily affirmations titled, "Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year " which goes on sale on November 19th. She has also signed on to write a tell-all memoir.

Demi Lovato admitted, "I'm battling with internal thoughts on how honest I should be."

She added, "Yes, I've been very honest, but if people really knew how dark and deep my struggles got -- not just with my eating disorder but with drugs and alcohol -- they'd be really shocked. But I'll most likely end up saying everything.

"Maybe it'll help other people in the industry who are headed down the wrong path."

When asked about the recent behavior of her fellow Disney alumni Miley Cyrus, Lovato said, "She's having fun and figuring out who she is, and this is the age when that happens."

She went on to say, "I think that... [long pause and a smile] she's doing her own thing. Good for her."
