Even though Cory Monteith and Lea Michele were a beautiful couple who were deeply in love, it doesn't mean that they didn't go through hard times.

New reports are alleging that before the "Glee" star's tragic death on July 13th the pair had their ups and downs and weren't even in a relationship when he died.

According to Hollywood Life, a source said that Lea Michele, 27, and her boyfriend, Cory Monteith aged 31, were "polar opposites" in many respects.

Despite the fact that while most of the time they were content as a couple, sometimes their personalities clashed especially when they were away from the "Glee" set.

Apparently they type of relationship Michele and Monteith had required occasional breaks from one another.

A source explained, "Lea and Cory were in love, nobody can argue that," adding, "But the relationship was hard to maintain away from the set. It was easy to be in love and happy around friends and crew, but it was completely different when their realities set in with each other."

Hollywood Life reported that the temporary split explains why the actress was on vacation with her girlfriends in Cabo San Lucas prior to Monteith's death.

However, even though they were broken up and fought over their differences, sources say the two were confident that they would get back together when "Glee" resumed filming in September.

A source said, "They both knew that they would be together again once they got back to filming."

The insider went on to say, "It was never going to be a complete relationship end - they just needed time away from each other to deal with their separate lives, which were complete polar opposites."

Another source close to Lea Michele told the celebrity gossip site that she and Cory seemed to be "totally happy and in love" before his death, but noted that they had troubles just like any normal couple.

"It's not like they were living in some perfect fairytale world," the source said.

"Couples fight and they had ups and downs like everyone does so it's possible that they could have been fighting before he died - but that doesn't make it any easier for her."
