It's official, the hit Fox musical series "Glee" will end next year with season 6 being its final one.
Co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that following season 5 the show will air for one more season and then end. The announcement was made at a Paley Center event honoring FX on Wednesday, October 15th.
E! News reported that TVLine was first to break the big news.
Following the tragic death of "Glee" star Cory Monteith who played lovable quarterback Finn Hudson on the series, Murphy was forced to think of a different ending for the musical comedy-drama.
While at the event the co-creator explained how the series is forced to undergo change because of Monteith's death.
He said, "The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel (Lea Michele) and Cory/Finn's story."
Murphy added, "I knew what the last shot was, he was in it. I knew what the last line was, she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we're figuring that out now."
However, he did admit that he has a "good idea" about how the show will end.
He said, "I'm going to tell the studio and the network [in a week] how after Cory's unfortunate passing we can end the show that I think is very satisfactory."
Murphy added, "And kind of in his honor, which I love."
Last week, the show aired the tribute to Monteith in the emotional episode 3 titled, "The Quarterback."
