Over the weekend, Prince William took wife Kate Middleton and their new son, royal baby Prince George, to visit his late mother's, Princess Diana's family on the 16th anniversary of her death.

According to the Daily Mail, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge traveled with their baby boy to visit Lady Sarah McCorquodale, the older sister of Diana Princess of Wales.

August 31st marked 16 years since Diana died in a car crash in Paris.

Will and Kate were seen getting on a helicopter close to the farm in Stoke Rochford where Lady Sarah lives.

William is reportedly very close with his aunt, who was Princess Diana's informal lady in waiting. Both he and his younger brother Prince Harry spent their childhoods at their aunt's place playing with their cousins.

It is uncertain whether Harry joined his brother and his family on the visit.

Back in 2009, Prince William spoke out about his mother's death for the first time after becoming the Royal Patron of the Child Bereavement Charity.

The Daily Mail reported that the Duke of Cambridge said, "Never being able to say the word 'Mummy' again in your life sounds like a small thing. However, for many, including me, it's now really just a word - hollow and evoking only memories."

Will reflected in the paper about the tragic death of his mother. He wrote, "Initially, there is a sense of profound shock and disbelief that this could ever happen to you. Real grief often does not hit home until much later. For many it is a grief never entirely lost.

"Life is altered as you know it, and not a day goes past without you thinking about the one you have lost."

He continued, "I know that over time it is possible to learn to live with what has happened and, with the passing of years, to retain or rediscover cherished memories."

Prince William, 15-years-old at the time and Prince Harry, 11-years-old at the time, were on vacation at Balmoral with the Royal Family on August 31, 1997 when Princess Diana was severely injured in a car accident alongside her boyfriend Dodi Fayed.

Hours later, their father, Prince Charles, told the boys that their mother had died. The two have remained silent since and have refused to discuss conspiracy theories of their mother's death as far as who was responsible and placing blame.
