The year 2020 is the rise of at-home devices and do-it-yourself self-care routines. With this, most of us became our own beauty guru in the comfort of our homes.

Although it was considered a hell year, it taught us to be creative. Social media was filled with innovative individuals who are expressing themselves through quarantine makeovers.

Different arrays of nail designs were also seen all over Instagram. May it be modern French manicures, shimmering nails embellished with crystals, pearls and gem, to those long, coffin nails ala Cardi B, all these became trendy during 2020.

As we welcomed 2021, we can now bid goodbye to our DIY acrylic nail arts and say hello to the latest craze this year.

Minimalist Nail Design

Since women can't express themselves with makeup, some diverted their attention to having head-turning nails, covered with loud designs. From animal print inspired designs to the magical, color-shifting mood nails, it feels like the 2020 trend is more on the eclectic side. Unfortunately, celebrity nail artist Mo Qin shared to WhoWhatWear.com that 3D manicure "will lose steam in 2021" because it is hard to maintain--most especially the cleaning and removing part. Instead, she mentioned that nail trends 2021 are leaning towards the minimal side with muted colors and minimal graphics. "I love minimalist nail art. It's clean, classy, and chic," she explained, adding, "It's also a great way to play around with shapes and lines in a subtle way. I enjoy adding simple accents like triangles or dots."

Velvet Nails

Velvet is not just for the holidays, and it is now becoming the latest obsession in the nail department.

According to Glosslab founder Rachel Apfel Glass, as obtained by Brydie.com, Velvet manicures is having a major comeback this 2021 and this time, it's all about textures.

"Velvet has seen a resurgence in the fashion space, so naturally we would see that trend make its way into nails," she mentioned. Aside from this, having velvet nails can add sparkle to your everyday look.
