Mariah Carey took to Twitter to apologize for appearing late at the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

"Last night's situation was beyond my control. I apologize to all that showed up, you know that I would never want to disappoint you," Carey tweeted.

An insider told E! News the 44-year-old Grammy award-winning singer was concerned about the rain affecting her singing.

"The buzz on set was that Mariah eventually showed up in her car, but refused to get out of the car because of the weather," the insider said.

Moreover, the insider added the 15 kids who were supposed to serve as Carey's backup dancers were "incredibly disappointed" when the mother of two did not show up on set. The kids were said to have had completed two full rehearsals while waiting for Carey.

Other sources told TMZ Carey was in East Side hotel talking on the phone about her divorce with her lawyer while people were waiting for her to perform at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

According to the people who overheard Carey on the phone, the singer was going over the property settlement and the conversation seemed calm.

Carey was said to be still on the phone talking divorce when she appeared at Rockefeller Center over three hours late, which reportedly enraged NBC executives and production crew.

Prior to this, Carey took to Instagram to share a photo of her on her red Thanksgiving gown at the house of "America's Got Talent" host Nick Cannon in Los Angeles.

In the latest edition of In Touch, Cannon said he wanted to make sure he, Carey and their kids have "a wonderful holiday together somewhere cold and snowy, like Aspen (Colorado)."

Apparently, Carey and Cannon are still friends for the sake of their four-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan Scott, and spent their first holiday together as a separated couple. Carey was with the twins when she was on the road with her "Elusive Chanteuse Show" in recent weeks.
