Renee Zellweger was spotted on Wednesday filming on the set of "Same Kind of Different as Me" with a head of dark curls thanks to a brunette wig, E! News reported.

Zellweger is currently in Jackson, Mississippi for shooting of the film, which is based on the book of the same name written by Ron Hall and Denver Moore with Lynn Vincent.

The Oscar-winning actress is set to play the role of a wife who is struggling with her marriage to her art dealer husband. Her husband then ends up becoming friends with a sharecropper turned drifter.

Zellweger's new look for "Same Kind of Different as Me" comes just a few weeks after fans were shocked at her red carpet appearance at the Hollywood Awards, according to PEOPLE.

Many have opined that the actress, whose last film was "My Own Love Song" back in 2010, looked different at the Elle Women event.

Zellweger released a statement exclusively to PEOPLE, saying her new look was all thanks to a healthier and happier lifestyle.

"I'm glad folks think I look different!" she said. She admitted that despite what has been said about her, she was actually thrilled that other people could see how she was not ashamed for living a different and more fulfilling life.

"The Bridget Jones's Diary" star credited her happiness to her decision to lead a slower-paced lifestyle with her new boyfriend Doyle Bramhall.

"People don't know me as healthy for a while," the actress added. She explained that everyone gets older and that was the reason why she looked different.

"I'm happy," the actress concluded.

For "Same Kind of Different as Me," Zellweger will be joined by Director Michael Carney; Greg Kinnear, who will play Zellweger's husband; Djimon Hounsou, who will play the homeless man, and Jon Voight, according to Los Angeles Times.

Zellweger is also set to appear on the big screen in "The Whole Truth," a drama thriller film directed by Courtney Hurt. She will be starring opposite Keanu Reeves, Gabriel Basso, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jim Belushi and more.
