Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn are amicably ending their 13 years of marriage, a rep for the "Rizzoli & Isles" actress told People.

"For the sake of their children, they ask for respect and privacy as they navigate this time in their lives," her rep said.

Harmon, 42, and Sehorn, 43, who got married in June 9, 2001, share three daughters: Finley, 11, Avery, 9, and Emery, 5.

Sehorn, a former professional American football cornerback in the NFL, proposed to the "Law & Order" alum during a live episode of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" back in 1998. Harmon's father, Lawrence Paul, was in the audience when Sehorn surprised his then-girlfriend by walking out onto the stage and getting down on one knee. Elton John, the show's musical guest at the time, even played a song from the movie "The Road to Eldorado" during the romantic gesture, E! News reported.

In an interview with Your Tango in 2011, the Highland Park, Texas-born actress openly admitted that keeping a solid and happy marriage needs a lot of work. "You have to be really considerate of each other, really kind to each other. It's a lot of work, really," she said.

Distance is probably one of the reasons why the two decided to split. Harmon filmed her series "Rizzoli & Isles" near Los Angeles while her family was based in Charlotte, N.C.

"We don't get out Friday nights early enough to catch a flight home," Harmon told Your Tango. "So I'm here [in L.A.]. We sometimes meet in Texas, a 2½-hour flight for both of us. I miss my kids, so it's hard, but my children are so understanding."

Meanwhile, the TNT crime drama "Rizzoli & Isles," which also stars Sasha Alexander, Jr., Jordan Bridges , Brian Goodman, Lee Thompson Young, Bruce McGill and Lorraine Bracco, ended their 12-episode fifth season run on September 2.
