A leaked memo from Walgreens suggests an upcoming nationwide launch of Apple Pay support this October 18th, reports Techaeris.

It should be noted as well that the rumored date for the launch is just two days after Apple's own event this October 16, which is expected to launch the new iPads, new iMacs, and a new OS X Yosemite.

Alex Hernandez writes that Walgreens has been accepting Google Wallet mobile payments for quite some time now, and that "mobile payment advocates are hoping that Apple Pay might spur on mobile payment adoption and that it might turn into a standard."

However, Hernandez observed that "those who've never used mobile payment systems on a smartphone are equally resistant to it due to privacy and security concerns."

According to Eddy Cue, Apple's Senior VP of Internet Software and Services, "Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When you're using Apple Pay in a store, restaurant or other merchant, cashiers will no longer see your name, credit card number or security code, helping to reduce the potential for fraud."

"Apple doesn't collect your purchase history, so we don't know what you bought, where you bought it or how much you paid for it. And if your iPhone is lost or stolen, you can use Find My iPhone to quickly suspend payments from that device," he adds.

Last September 9, it was announced that Walgreens was one of Apple's major partners in its launch of the mobile payment system, together with a few more companies such as McDonalds, Staples, and Macy's, according to MacRumors.

In addition, the leaked memo also stated that customers using an iPhone 6 will be able to use Apple Pay in all Walgreens stores by just tapping their phone "to the upper portion of the pinpad to pay for their purchase."
