Michiteru Okabe, the producer of the upcoming Capcom zombie-survival game "Resident Evil: Revelations 2," opened up regarding the company's decision to release it in four episodes, according to Game Spot.

According to Capcom's press release, "Revelations 2" will be released in episodes that contain hours of gameplay. Each episode's release will be a week apart, IGN reported.

Okabe explained the decision to split the game into several parts is Capcom's way of adapting to the growing digital trend within the gaming community.

"This is a new idea for 'Revelations 2,'" he said. "Why we want to do it this way: We know that disc and retail sales are important and will continue to be important, and that's kind of our bread and butter; we know how to do that."

"But, we also know that we're living in a world that is becoming more and more digital and there's a lot of ways to deliver digital content," he added. "We think episodic is an interesting way to do that, especially with a game whose story is structured this way."

Each episode of "Revelations 2" will end with a cliffhanger to keep gamers waiting for and speculating about the game's next installment.

Aside from heightening anticipation, Okabe said the episodic format was designed to foster discussions among gamers regarding their experiences playing each part of "Revelations 2."

"The cliffhanger aspect is one important element, but the other thing is people really enjoy communicating about popular culture; they do it all the time," he said.

"One thing we want to do is try to foster communication between players who are enjoying the game, see them exchanging ideas about how they felt about this week's episode and what they think will happen next time," he continued.

The episodes of "Resident Evil: Revelation 2" will be released by the start of 2015 and will be available for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, according to Euro Gamer.

Players can purchase each installment for $5.99 or buy a season pass for $24.99. The season pass will automatically download each episode once it has been released.
