"The Walking Dead" has cast Tyler James Williams, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter both confirmed Wednesday, Sept. 24.

The 21-year-old actor, most recognizable for having played the titular role in the Chris Rock-inspired sitcom "Everybody Hates Chris," will portray a character named Noah. No further details about his casting have been revealed. His debut appearance and how long the character's storyline will last are not clear as of the moment.

The news confirms rumors swirling in the online community of the mega-hit AMC zombie show, after Williams was spotted on the Atlanta set late last month.

"Word is people around base camp have been told/heard that Tyler Williams from 'Everybody Hate Chris' is on set. It's been rumored for a bit now that he had landed a role," The Spoiling Dead Fans wrote on Facebook in August.

"His tweets match up for certain dates," added The Spoiling Dead Fans. "He also appears to be the male in the trailer following Beth (Emily Kinney) out of the hospital."

Aside from Atlanta, Williams was also reportedly seen in Griffin and Peachtree during the Season 5 filming of the show.

There is no character named Noah in the Robert Kirkman comic book series, in which the TV series is based. But there was a Woodbury teenage resident named Noah (Peter Wierling) in Season 3 but he was killed during the camp's battle with Rick and his group.

There is also a Noah Cruz in the prequel video game "The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct." And since Cruz's character generally matches Williams' age and ethnicity, it is possible that the Westchester County, New York-born actor will play the video game character in Season 5, ComingSoon.net reported.

Williams, who recently starred on NBC's Matthew Perry comedy "Go On" and also appeared in "Peeples," joins another newbie Seth Gilliam, who will play comic book character Father Gabriel, as well as new series regulars Andrew J. West (Gareth), Alanna Masterson (Tara) and Christian Serratos (Rosita).

"The Walking Dead" Season 5 premieres on Oct. 12 at 9:00 p.m. ET on AMC.
