Newlyweds Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent are going to be dads!

Berkus and Brent announced Wednesday, Sept. 24, that they are expecting their first child via surrogate in a statement posted on their Facebook pages.

"Wanted to share some exciting news," the couple wrote. "We have had the most special year and it's JUST become even more beautiful. We are happy to announce that we are expecting our first child!"

The pair went on to share a few additional details related to the big news. "While we can't share much, we can say that thanks to a surrogate and the support of those we love we will officially be a family in the spring of 2015!"

Berkus and Brent tied the knot on May 3 at the New York Public Library after two years of dating. They were the first same-sex couple to marry in the New York landmark, according to the New York Post.

Their intimate wedding ceremony was attended by celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Rachael Ray, Busy Philipps, Dr. Oz and R&B singer Estelle, who sang "American Boy" at the special occasion, Us Weekly reported.

Berkus proposed to Brent during a trip to Machu Picchu in the spring of 2013.

"I fell apart like full ugly-girl kind of cry," Brent, 29, who is Rachel Zoe's former assistant, later told E! News. "I mean, my kids are screwed. They are going to say, 'Dad proposed to dad in Peru. What are you going to do for your significant other?'"

Shortly after proposing, Berkus opened up to People about how much he loves Brent. "I've known since our first date that Jeremiah was who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with," he said.

"As we've shared the news of our engagement and been met with so much excitement and support we're both reminded of how important it is that every person have the legal right to marry the one they love," Berkus added.

Even before their wedding, Brent revealed that they were already thinking about sharing the experience of parenthood.

"Nate will be the best dad," Brent said on the set of E!'s "The Fabulist." "I want like a soccer team. Unfortunately, it's not as easy for us like conventional couples as you can imagine. We both want kids. I would have five if I could, but we will probably have two."
