Michael C. Hall is Broadway's newest Hedwig!
The 43-year-old actor, who is best known for his portrayal of the vigilante serial killer Dexter Morgan in Showtime's crime drama series "Dexter," is set to take on the role of the German transgender rocker starting Oct. 16 until Jan. 4 at the Belasco Theatre, opposite Tony-winner Lena Hall, Yitzhak, Hedwig's husband, AceShowbiz reported.
"Hedwig and the Angry Inch," which has a book by John Cameron Mitchell and music and lyrics by Stephen Trask, follows the story of Hedwig who is searching for love and completeness in America, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The titular role was previously played by Neil Patrick Harris and is presently being portrayed by Andrew Rannells, whose limited engagement run ends on Oct. 12.
Hall's schedule will allow the show to take advantage of the actor's TV popularity during the massively profitable holiday weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
During Harris'run, "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" became Broadway's strongest sellers, regularly earning million-dollar weeks even at seven performances a week in one of the Main Stem's smaller houses, Variety reported. With Rannells in the lead, the ticket sales of the Michael Mayer-directed musical have been more modest but still fairly good, with weekly gross reaching the $650,000 range.
Hall is no stranger to Broadway. He made his Broadway debut as the emcee in "Cabaret" in 1999 and played Billy Flynn in "Chicago" in 2002. Most recently, he starred in Will Eno's 2014 Broadway production of the play "The Realistic Jones," directed by Sam Gold and co-starring Toni Collette, Tracy Letts and Marisa Tomei.
Aside from "Dexter," Hall also played the funeral director David Fisher on Alan Ball's black comedy HBO series "Six Feet Under," which earned him an Emmy nomination. Hall got his Golden Globe for his performance in "Dexter," which aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013.
