A new wearable device from Apple is rumored to possibly be making its debut on the September 6 event along with the launching of the iPhone 6.

Industry news has it that Apple could be unveiling not only two iPhone models on their big event in September this year, but also a wearable device, according to Re/code. However, the details are still hazy on whether or not this new device could turn out in the form of a smartwatch.

Apple's new wearable "will, predictably, make good use of Apple's HealthKit health and fitness platform. It will also - predictably - make good use of HomeKit, the company's new framework for controlling connected devices - though it's not clear how broadly or in what way," writes John Paczkowski of Re/code.

If the rumors turn out to be accurate, this could mark Apple's entry into the burgeoning wearables market, says USA Today. Apple will then be joining the list of companies that are already churning out smartwatches, such as Google, Sony and Samsung.

Google has started making a line of Android-based smartwatches earlier this year, and Samsung has already established its own line of wearables for consumers. LG and Motorola, along with tech startups Pebble and Basis Science, have also entered the mix earlier than Apple.

There are already rumors surrounding the possibility of Apple releasing two new iPhone models - a 4.7 inch version and a bigger 5.5 inch model, CNET reports. If Apple does indeed unveil a wearable device alongside these two new iPhone models, "that would be a departure from the company's product rollout strategy," writes Nick Statt of CNET.

If Apple's new wearable veers away from becoming a smartwatch, Statt writes, the alternative could be something similar to Nike's FuelBand. Nike had discontinued production of its FuelBand line and rumors have abounded that the sportswear company is now in partnership with Apple.
