The Kardashian siblings may have stunned at the MTV Video Music Awards but they were also slammed by thousands of critics who took offense with their texting during a special tribute for the late Michael Brown.
Rapper Common went up the stage to present the nominees for this year's hip hop video and then asked the crowd to take a minute to remember Brown's death, according to the Daily Mail.
"Hip hop has always presented a voice for revolution. I want us all to take a moment for silence for Mike Brown and for peace in this country and in the world," he said.
The audiences at the event grew silent and most of the attendees bowed their heads as a sign of respect. However, around the same time, Kim, Kendall and Kylie were spotted with their heads bowed down because they were using their mobile phones.
Photos of the three circulated online and Twitter users slammed their act. One person wrote, "Let's not pretend we're shocked the Kardashian girls were texting during a moment of silence for Ferguson at the VMAs."
Another Twitter user wrote, "I would pay TOP DOLLAR to see Kim Kardashian point out Ferguson on a map."
@AmandaRising tweeted, "An extra special f*ck you to the Kardashian-jenner girls for texting during a moment of silence for ferguson."
Twitter user @EronisN added, "I'm sorry that the moment of silence for Ferguson was interrupting the Kardashian's social life. What complete a-holes."
@brandonways quipped, "Kim's like, who is Ferguson? #smh #kimkardashian #KylieJenner #idiots #putthephonedown #Ferguson #shameful #VMAs #howdreadful."
A representative for MTV later on confirmed that the Kardashian siblings were texting at the time of the tribute and clarified that there was no delay in footage as was previously reported by other publications, the Daily Star noted.
As of late, none of the Kardashian-Jenner siblings have responded to the Twitter backlash they received following their insensitive act, the NY Daily News noted.
