Steve-O is facing a police investigation after he has admitted that he was the one responsible for changing a San Diego freeway sign into an anti-SeaWorld message back in May.

The 40-year-old "Jackass" star, whose real name is Steve Glover, posted a video on YouTube Wednesday, Aug. 20, which documents how he defaced a freeway sign on Interstate 5 by changing the phrase "Sea World Drive" to "Sea World Sucks" on it.

The footage titled "Breaking The Law! - Steve-O" starts with the TV prankster stating, "I'm putting my foot down for Shamu," referring to the celebrity orca who, along with other killer whales in captivity, is allegedly being mistreated at SeaWorld San Diego.

Later in the video, Steve-O is shown attempting to get himself to the top of the sign with the help of some friends. After five tries over a span of two days, he finally accomplished the task on his own using a ladder.

"If doing that was wrong, I don't want to be right. Screw you, SeaWorld!" he says at the end of the video.

The video's description also encouraged its viewers to share the clip on social media with the hashtag #SeaWorldSucks. "Wish me luck with the law!" he added.

Following Steve-O's video confession, California Department of Transportation released the following statement: "We consider defacing public property at a cost to state taxpayers an unlawful act and a dangerous distraction for motorists. We will refer all information to the California Highway Patrol," according to San Diego's Fox 5.

A representative for the California Highway Patrol has confirmed thatan investigation has been launched, and that the highway patrol was given "a case of alleged vandalism for investigation and possible prosecution in connection with the incident," Daily Dish reported.

Fox 5 photographers captured Steve-O at the scene of the crime back in May, but he said at the time that he was not involved with the stunt.

The debate over the keeping of orcas in captivity at Sea World theme parks was brought to light with the 2013 critically acclaimed documentary "Blackfish," which is directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite.

The movement calling to boycott Sea World parks has been causing a lot of negative effects, with the theme park company announcing last week that its stock price dropped 33 percent, the New York Daily News reported.

Steve-O has been a member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), since joining the Ringling Bros. clown college, KTLA5 noted.
