Former "Glee" star Cory Monteith's estranged father Joe Monteith remembers his son on his first death anniversary saying, "I still miss him very much. I still have the empty feeling inside."
In his interview on Entertainment Tonight Canada, the elder Monteith described his son as a "likeable young man," Toronto Sun reported.
"If he was in the room, you would be smiling. He enjoyed life ... that's why I was so shocked by the outcome of everything," the father said admitting he did not know much about his son's struggles with drug addiction.
"I never talked to him while he was in rehab. And then all of a sudden four weeks later he was out of rehab. I thought that was kind of soon," he added.
It was only in April 2013 when the late "Glee" actor's father learned of his stints in rehab through watching TV news.
On July 13, 2013, the "Glee" actor was found dead due to an overdose of heroin and alcohol by hotel staff in his Vancouver hotel room.
Joe Monteith also said he was not invited to the last viewing ceremony of his son.
His former wife Ann McGregor held a private viewing shortly after the death and cremation of their son. Only the actor's girlfriend Lea Michele and his brother Shaun were invited at the time, New York Daily News has learned.
"I didn't get to go to his viewing. Which would have meant a lot. I guess they sprayed his ashes in a cove that he really enjoyed going to," the patriarch revealed adding his relationship with his former wife became better after their son's death.
"I did receive an email from his mother a couple of days ago. She's going to be sending me some of his stuff," he said.
In the interview, he also noted Lea Michele should move on with her life.
"She's a beautiful young woman, she's just getting to the top of her career and I don't expect her to go out and do it alone. She should enjoy life. She had a good time when she was with Cory, from what I understand, but life's gotta go on," he remarked.
Lea Michele is currently dating model Matthew Paetz, who reportedly used to work as an escort, according to Radar Online.
