Sigourney Weaver Reveals Why She Joined ‘Alien: Isolation’

Sigourney Weaver, star of the "Alien" film franchise, talked about reprising her role as Ellen Ripley in Sega's survival-horror game, "Alien: Isolation," Time reported.

In "Isolation," the main character is Amanda, the daughter of Ripley. Amanda boards the space station Sevastopol to investigate the disappearance of her mother.

Although Ripley is not the protagonist of the game, the character will appear in the game's downloadable content.

In July of this year, it was reported that Weaver has agreed to lend her voice to the character Ripley in the game, The Guardian has learned.

According to the actress, this is the first video game based on the "Alien" films that she agreed to be a part of.

"I had been approached to participate in a couple of different Alien games but I felt that this one was very different," she said.

"First of all, there was a desire to put the player into the world that [director] Ridley Scott created, which is quite a terrifying one, and to let you loose in this situation that was so powerful in the first movie," Weaver added. "That's the experience of the game that I had to do with."

Weaver noted that she was immediately attracted to the game because of the character of Amanda. In the previous "Alien" films, Ripley's daughter was mentioned but her story was never explored, according to Polygon.

"The regular game, what touched me about it right away was Ripley's daughter Amanda, who's mentioned so briefly in Alien -there's a whole other life, a story about her and her colleagues in space and the connection between her and her mother," she said.

"They'd never had that connection because Ripley died or disappeared so long ago," the actress added. "So I was immediately intrigued by the idea that they had chosen to pick up this small but potent detail and turn it into an experience."

"Alien: Isolation" was released on Oct. 7 and is available for the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
