The wife of felon Jeremy Ray Meeks, who became famous for his handsome mug shot, is furious.

"She's upset. She's furious. Her man's in there, and people are taking it as a joke thinking it's funny talking about his looks, saying all kinds of crazy things," Meeks' friend Simone Johnson told CBS Sacramento. "

"I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see her at all in the cameras, because she's upset," she added.

Another friend Rajanique Davis said, "It's ridiculous. People are making jokes when this is not funny at all."

Meeks is a 30-year-old father of two boys. He and four other men were arrested during a joint law enforcement gang raid. They are currently facing weapons and gang-related charges.

Stockton Police Department posted Meeks' mugshot on their Facebook page and it instantly went viral receiving 88,000 "likes" and thousands of comments.

Meek's public defender Sam Behar said, "It's better than the attention my clients usually get."

Two days later, Meeks was arraigned on 11 felony counts related to street gang membership, firearm possession, and violating his probation. His wife was absent during the arraignment.

Meeks and his family admitted he has a criminal past, having spent time in prison for a grand theft in 2002, but has turned his life around since.

His younger brother Bryan Varela said, "He's a man who learns from his mistakes. He got out of being incarcerated and put his mind on focus to his family and started doing what he had to do."

"With his past history, he got out of being incarcerated and put his mind on focus to his family and started doing what he had to do. Living the dream that he always wanted," Varela added.

On the other hand, Mayor Anthony Silva described Meeks as "one of the most violent criminals in the Stockton area," EurWeb reported.

Despite his family's testimonies, Meeks is still locked at the San Joaquin County Jail with his bail raised from $900,000 to $1 million, New York Daily News reported. He will be back in court on June 27 at 8:30 a.m.
