Just last month Serenity Spa celebrated one of many beauty themed events. The nomad spa opened its doors to clients both new and regulars for a fun night of food, drinks, spa services and belly dancing.
The Indian themed event creatively coined BeauTEA and Belly Dancing gave us a refreshing and authentic walk through the culture. To chat about the even we caught up with one of the collaborators responsible for the fun night, Elizabeth Cohen, EC Creative Consultant.
In between our bindi themed manicure we asked Liz what inspired such a diverse event. She explained, "It's really a collaboration of women who are creative and it's an experience including spa services, food, music and visual art.
"I came up with the idea, myself as well as Amanda Bourne, The Bourne Explorer, she's an amazing foodie and event producer along with her partner Pinky who she works with.
"Our first choice was to do an Indian sort of influenced event and explore the culture. So we've been going to Little India, we went to Queens, we went to Manhattan, there's bindis and makeup.
"The whole event is food, drink, spa services, bindi inspired manicures, henna art, ayurvedic influenced massages and sampling of products."
As for the entertainment portion of the nights goes, Elizabeth revealed that she "researched to find Indian dancers that were more sexy and beautiful" for the event.
The creative consultant who also has her hand in PR revealed that a lot of thought went into planning the memorable evening.
She explained that BeauTea and Belly Dancing is "the idea of a night out in which you pay a certain amount of money and you get to drink, eat and experience fun spa services, men and women with different themes and different concepts. So this is the first, BeauTea and Belly Dancing and then we'll be on to the next."
BWN: So there will be more themed nights?
EC: We're looking to do an ongoing event at the spa that embraces different cultures with a price fixed amount that includes tips and you can come have a night out, have fun and experience beautiful things in music, art, dance, visual art, taste with drinks both cocktails, fresh juices and teas.
Even though the event welcomed all into Serenity Spa, Cohen couldn't help but gush just a bit about the girl power behind the event.
Further explaining her partnership with Amanda and the Serenity Spa owner Maria Hardy, Elizabeth revealed, "This is more of a collaboration of creative women to celebrate business and have some fun.
"We invite our friends, it's a way to do business that's interesting and each time we do something we have to delve into that culture and come up with something beautiful. We're open to all different ideas."
So, will the ladies be branching out if the Indian themed night? Possibly! Elizabeth said the next event "Might be sort of a Latin based concept where we have maybe tango dancing and Spanish food."
In the end the event was a success and a big reason why is because of Maria Hardy's presence in the community.
Cohen revealed, "Maria has been here for ten years, I was a customer of hers first and then she hadn't seen me in a while and she asked me 'Where have you been? Why don't you come and work with me?'
"So I'm working with her doing PR but also this is my own venture I came up with to collaborate with Maria and Amanda. So that's how it evolved."
BWN: Speaking of evolving, what can we expect to see from Serenity Spa in the future?
EC: This is the first of many to come and embracing all different cultures. Considering this is the first one, we've done pretty well getting a response from people wanting to come and check it out with us.
While attending the BeauTea and Belly Dancing event guest were able to indulge in the many skin care lines that Serenity Spa carries.
Owner Maria Hardy can't get enough of the Phyt's Skincare line which uses all organic ingredients in its products.
The spa also offers organic manicures which uses the likes of Zoya organic nail polish among other nail care products.
The focus on organic products is part of the core values of both Serenity Spa Nomad and the newly launched experimental evening "salone events" which offers artistry, food, music, spa services, dance, film, art, fashion and more.
