The CW's hit show "Reign" is back with a bang following it's mini hiatus and cast member Adelaide Kane couldn't help dish some juicy spoilers about Mary, Francis, Bash and more.
It seems that Thursday night's episode "Leige Lord" will prove to be an interesting one for Mary as the Queen of Scots gets her first taste of power.
According to TVLINE, the actress couldn't help but dish out how one secret will cause a huge change for Mary.
She explained, "There's a lot going on. Mary discovers a secret clause in her marriage contract that her mother conspired to create with Catherine, sort of for personal gain.
"Basically, the freedom of Scotland hinges on Mary producing an heir, which was a pretty big deal in those days. If you couldn't produce an heir, you were essentially useless. So there's continuing tension between Mary and her mother, even from a distance."
Speaking of tension, someone who is causing plenty of discord in the French court is King Henry. She confessed, "That is a very disturbing and dangerous turn he's taking. And what's really going on? Is he being poisoned? Is this an English plot? Is he sick? Has he gone mad with power?
"He's incredibly dangerous, and no one can put the brakes on him because he's the supreme power in France. And yes, Mary suffers the brunt of his psychosis.
"He starts getting headaches and hallucinating, and she becomes one of the many targets of his erratic
behavior as the season goes on."
The addition of a new cast member will also prove to be detrimental to Mary and those who she holds dear to her heart.
Adelaide Kane said, "The interaction between Bash and Mary does cause some marital tension for Francis and Mary, as well as for Kenna and Bash. Over the next couple of episodes, Kenna and Bash start to come to grips with the fact that they're married, and perhaps they start to see each other in a new light.
"I think they do try to make it work. Mary and Francis' focus, meanwhile, is on having a child and governing. And Bash isn't the only bone of contention between them.
"Mary's half-brother James arrives from Scotland, and he tries to convince Mary to return. Naturally, Francis is suspicious of James and wonders if he has ulterior motives in removing Mary from French Court. That causes even more tension between Mary and Francis."
As a treat we have the full summary for the episode 17 thanks to Wikipedia. PLEASE DO NOT READ BELOW if you do not want to know what happened in "Leige Lord."
The summary reads, "Mary discovers that her marriage contract has a secret clause stating that if she dies without an heir, Scotland will belong to France. Mary and Francis secretly meet Scottish Lord MacKenzie (Andrew Airlie) to tell him of the contract so he can return to Scotland and protest.
"Catherine learns of Mary's actions and has all the Scots who know of the contract killed. Mary threatens to reveal to all the French nobles that Henry is mad, which forces Catherine to burn the original marriage contract. Francis is disconcerted by Mary's willingness to start a French civil war to protect Scotland.
"Bash and Kenna's marriage has a rocky start but Bash later saves Kenna from Henry's attentions and promises to always defend her. Lola confesses to Julien about her pregnancy but not the father; Julien accepts this and still wants to marry her."
"Reign" airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on the CW.
