Ponytails made a serious statement on the New York Fashion Week runways.

Designers like Derek Lam, Victoria Beckham, Rebecca Minkoff and Jason Wu all sent a version of the ponytail down the runway and it's clear this will be a major trend for fall 2014. Check out the slideshow above to see for yourself.

Ponytails are never going to go out of style, but they seem to have made a whole new comeback. Ponies are not just for workouts and lazy hair days. They can be made super chic and can take just as much work as your favorite blowout or chignon. Jeanie Syfu, who styled the "sexy tomboy" hair for Rebcecca Minkoff's latest fashion show agrees.

"The hair I created for #rebeccaminkoff today was #natural and understated, but don't be fooled! It's takes a lot of prep to make it look au natural," the expert warned.

The prep time for a ponytail is much longer these days. Well before you reach for your elastics, these looks take mousse, hairspray, a blowout, and a little teasing to get things just right. But if you don't have the time to follow the instructions for runway ponytail hair, consider this.
