Vanessa Hudgens proved that her talent extends past being a preppy high school singer or a twerking college student in the trailer of her upcoming film "Gimme Shelter."
According to E! News, the 24-year-old plays a troubled teenager named Apple who is in search of a better life seeing as her past includes an abusive mother and several foster homes.
Austin Butler's girlfriend told the celebrity news site, "Every single day was definitely a challenge but one I embraced with open arms."
She added, "It was just so thrilling to be able to push myself every day and see how far I could take it."
With the role came a few drastic measures for Vanessa Hudgens who had to cut off her gorgeous hair, sit through a frightening car crash, gain 15 pounds and give birth.
In the film, the actress had to shoot the delivery of her character's first child. She confessed, "I've never shot a birthing scene and I ended up popping blood vessels in my face."
She went on to say, "Probably the most physical and emotionally draining scene was my birthing scene."
Reflecting on the film the brunette refers to the whole experience as "surreal."
While introducing the trailer she explained, "My character Apple was a very challenging role for me to play," adding, "But extremely rewarding as well."
Vanessa Hudgens' film "Gimme Shelter" hits theatres January 24th.
