After less than a year of dating Leighton Meester and Adam Brody are engaged. Sources close to the former "Gossip Girl" star and her "The O.C." boyfriend confirmed the news this week.

According to Us Weekly, the couple met back in 2011 on the set of their film "The Oranges" and began "hanging out" in early 2013.

A source told Star magazine, "Leighton and Adam are crazy about each other and have talked about getting married eventually.

"But she had no idea he would propose so soon! It was the surprise of her life and she's ecstatic!"

Leighton Meester, 27, previously dated actor Aaron Himelstein before the two decided to break up during the 2012 holiday season.

Meanwhile, Adam Brody, 33, was romantically linked to director and screenwriter Lorene Scafaria back in 2010.

An insider told Us Weekly that prior to their relationship the stars were "always close and friendly." Even though they have remained silent about their romance the couple has attended several low-key appearances together in and around Hollywood over the past year.

Next for the couple aside from wedding planning is their upcoming film together, titled, "Life Partners."

Back in 2012 Leighton Meester told Lucky magazine, "I love love. It's the most intriguing universally understood emotion, and it comes in so many forms: family love, love of friends," adding, "I fall in love with everybody all the time."
