It looks like Charlie Hunnam quit the role of Christian Grey in the highly anticipated film adaption of E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" due to his busy schedule and will be replaced!

According to Us Weekly, over the weekend Universal Pictures and Focus Features have announced that Charlie Hunnam has decided to pull out of the film.

In a joint statement the studios revealed, "The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."

This news comes after a fan anticipated search which named Hunnam, 33, for the role on September 2nd alongside actress Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele.

"So... Christian..." James teased on her Twitter account at the time. She tweeted, "The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey."

She added, "I wish Charlie all the best. X."

Days after the reveal Hunnam spoke about what "a big commitment" the films would be but that he had overwhelming chemistry with Johnson from their initial readings together.

He said, "I started reading with Dakota I knew that I definitely wanted to do it." The "Sons of Anarchy" star said on September 7th.

He added, "There's just like a tangible chemistry between us. It felt exciting and fun and weird and compelling."

After Hunnam and Johnson were announced for the lead role fans started a petition against the casting requesting that they two be replaced, among the part of Christian Grey fans suggested the likes of Matt Bomer, Ian Somerhalder, Henry Cavill and several other names.
