The new "Battle of the Year" 3D movie boosts a diverse cast and entertaining trailer. And with its September 20 release date debut here, the Chris Brown's film performance is getting mixed reviews from critics so far.

According to Hollywood LifeRihanna's ex-boyfriend, 24, is "impressive" in the movie centering around one dance crew's battle to win an annual breakdancing competition, said several news outlets.

Hollywood Reporter said that the "Fine China" singer pulls off some impressive moves onscreen. The Benson Lee-directed film also starring "Lost" star Josh Holloway, Laz Alonso and Josh Peck, however, falls short with a formulaic plotline, stock characters and an overly familiar quality that "should prevent it from breakout success."

The Brin Hill and Chris Parker-written film has drawn reactions from major newspapers as well.

The New York Daily News  wrote that a handful of the very diverse crew of dancers got a "thumbnail back story," but Brown gets a lot of screen time.

"Much focus is given to the tough braggart Rooster, played with reasonable believability by convicted felon Chris Brown," wrote the NY Daily News' Jordan Hoffman. "True to form, Brown's character picks a fight with someone smaller than he is. The singer and sometime actor isn't very good in the film, but he isn't bad, either. He dances well and cries on cue."

Aside from what critics had to say, Brown had a lot to express to fans. The "Love More" crooner was so excited for the film that he took to Twitter.
