"True Blood" star Rutina Wesley has filed for divorce from her husband Jacob Fishel. The starlet, who plays Tara Thornton on the HBO hit series, is ending her marriage after eight years.

According to TMZ, the 34-year-old actress cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

Wesley is asking a judge to reject any claim that Fishel might make about spousal support. She and Fishel are currently estranged.

She is seeking to avoid financially supporting Fishel, who is also an actor. At the moment, the actress is more successful and makes more money than her soon-to-be ex husband, reported the celebrity news site.

The couple met while attending New York City's Julliard School, but took a while to fall in love with each other, according to US Weekly.

"I hated my husband when we met in school," she told US at part of the magazine's "25 Things You Don't Know About Me" feature in June. "He was so good at Shakespeare."

But getting off to a bad start later worked in the couple's favor.

"When we were courting," she said, "my husband wrote me a sonnet and read it to me in Central Park."

The couple later tied the knot when they graduated in June 2005. They have no children.
