Nina Dobrev revealed on Instagram, Monday, that she will be leaving CW Network's "Vampire Diaries".

"I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn't just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party," Dobrev captioned the Instagram picture she posted.

"I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime," she added.

"I invite you to hop on the roller coaster ride that is Elena Gilbert's life and join me as I celebrate her and prepare to say goodbye to her -- and to my work family -- as I move on to the next chapter of my life," Dobrev said.

The Bulgarian-Canadian actress thanked her TVD family for the love and support they gave her these past six years.

"I love you all. Fasten your seatbelts. If you think you know what's coming, you don't," Dobrev said in conclusion.

Rumors of Dobrev leaving the vampire themed show spread over the weekend when the crew members shared some holiday group trip photos on social media, with a hash tag #ninawewillmissyou.

After six seasons of playing a demanding role, the 26-year-old actress said she needed time to rest. She's ready to redeem her freedom and forge on to other opportunities, E News reported.

Julie Plec, the show's producer, described that saying goodbye to Dobrev was both bittersweet and beautiful experience.

"Nina is excited to spread her wings, get some rest, travel the world and also take it by storm, and we support her a thousand-fold.," Plec said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Plec added that although they will miss Dobrev and the 400 different characters she played, they will continue to tell the insane and challenging stories of the Salvatore Brothers.

Meanwhile, Dobrev's co-star, Michael Trevino (Tyler), is also set to leave the show, BBC News learned. It was reported that the 30-year-old actor has been cast for ABC Studio's "Kingmakers".

Despite of Dobrev and Trevino's exit, the show will continue. On board for season seven are Paul Wesley, Candice Accola, Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder, who happens to be Dobrev's real life ex-boyfriend.

Dobrev and Somerhalder dated for three years and officially broke up in 2013.
