HBO has confirmed the new cast members of the upcoming second season of "True Detective," which include Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly, to join Colin Farrell as a police officer and Vince Vaughn as a crime boss, Cinema Blend reported.

"True Detective Season 2" will feature Farrell, McAdams and Kitsch revolve as a trio of detectives involved in a conspiracy-driven chaos after a murder affects a city project related to Vaughn's character named Frank Semyon.

Farrell's character Ray Velcoro is a corrupt detective controlled by Semyon. Reilly will play Semyon's wife named Jordan, a former actress who keeps herself busy watching over her husband's business and schemes.

McAdams' character is named Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff's detective with adamant ethics. The 36-year-old actress had long been considered for the role but she was not able to commit immediately due to her conflicting schedule with the 2015 film "Spotlight."

However, a compromise had been reached to allow McAdams to handle both the film and the TV show, according to Variety. She is also set to appear in upcoming films "Every Thing Will Be Fine," "Southpaw," "The Little Prince" and "Sherlock Holmes 3" as well as an untitled Cameron Crowe film.

Like McAdams, Kitsch had also been long considered for a "True Detective" role. His character, Paul Woodrugh, is a war veteran and a motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol.

According to HBO, "True Detective Season 2" production is underway in California on eight episodes, which deal with "a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder."

"True Detective" alum Woody Harrelson has also confirmed he will no longer be involved in the show.

"Matthew and I are EPs on that, pretty minimally," Harrelson told USA Today referring to "Interstellar" star Matthew McConaughey. "I'd love to, in any way I can help, but they got it."

Other actors rumored but yet to be confirmed to be in "True Detective Season 2" are Michael Hyatt, Michael Irby, James Frain, Riley Smith, Leven Rambin, Abigail Spencer, Lolita Davidovich and Adria Arjona.
