'True Detective' Season 2: HBO Confirms Casting Of Colin Farrell And Vince Vaughn In Lead Roles

HBO has officially announced Monday, Sept. 23, that Colin Farrell And Vince Vaughn will star in "True Detective" Season 2, E! News reported.

Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him."  

Vaughn, on the other hand, will portray, Frank Semyon, "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."

Prior to the network's official announcement, Farrell confirmed over the weekend that he has been cast in the critically acclaimed crime drama anthology series.

"I'm doing the second series. I'm so excited," the 38-year-old Irish actor was quoted saying by The Sunday World.

"I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot," he added. "I know very little about it, but we're shooting in the environs of Los Angeles, which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids. These are early days and all the powers that be are working out locations and schedules and trying to lock down the cast."

Like Farrell, Vaughn, 44, was also rumored to star in the series over the summer.

Aside from confirming the actors' casting, HBO also released the first official logline for the new season: "Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder."

In addition, the network also confirmed that the second installment will comprise of eight episodes and will be shot in California. Justin Lin of the "Fast and Furious" franchise will direct the first two episodes of the new season, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Just like the first season, series creator Nic Pizzolatto is writing the script for the entire season.

Lensing is set to start later this fall for a January premiere, according to Variety.
