Vince Vaughn is the latest star at the helm of "True Detective" cast rumors, after Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson stole the show last season. Deadline first reported "The Internship" actor is favored to take on the lead role.

The site reports no formal negotiations have taken place at this time, but creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote the role with Vaughn already in mind. The two are said to have formed a relationship while briefly working on "Rockford Files."

It appears there will be four leads this season, with Taylor Kitsch and Colin Farrell being considered for those spots. "Mad Men" star Elisabeth Moss is rumored to take on the female lead.

According to TheWrap, "True Detective" will pick up after the death of Ben Caspar, the fictional California city's corrupt mayor. He was murdered last season "amid a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal that would forever change freeway gridlock in the state."

Though we will miss McConaughey this season, the "Dallas Buyers Club" star revealed he would be open to more "True Detective" in the future.

"If HBO had wanted an option on me for a season two or three, I wouldn't have done it," he recently told Deadline. "I wouldn't have walked into something where they could say, 'We've got you for the next three years.'"

"I liked 'True Detective,' the whole series and the experience of making it, so much that I'd be open to doing another one now," McConaughey explained. "At the time, I was looking at six months and not beyond that. I don't know of a feature film I'd sign for where I'm going to say, 'If this works, you've got me whenever you want me for the next three years.'"
