Zak Williams, the eldest son of the late Robin Williams, gave an emotional speech and talked about his late father during the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation gala held Thursday, PEOPLE reported.

Williams spoke at the gala and paid tribute to his late father's friendship with the late "Superman" actor Christopher Reeve, who was an advocate for those living with spinal cord injuries.

Williams said that his father and Reeves "always found time to give their all to those in need. I miss them dearly, but know that they are here within all of our hearts."

He mentioned at the gala that he and the Williams family were coping just fine, saying, "The key thing that I want people to know is that we're doing okay."

During the event, Reeve's daughter, Alexandra, spoke out in acknowledgement of the passing of some of their foundation's supporters, such as the likes of director Mike Nichols, actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, and William's father, Robin.

Reeve's son,Will, also mentioned the late comedian, and said, "Robin was our a light in our family for as long as we can remember. He and Dad made each other laugh and they stood by each other to the end."

"It's tremendously sad. We're trying to stay strong," Williams also told PEOPLE during the event. "But healing is a long-term process. We've got a great group of people helping us through it."

The late Oscar-winning actor passed away three months prior and Williams said he and his family are holding up well in the past months, according to Entertainment Tonight.

"We're doing okay. We're working hard to build our strength and acclimating to the new normal," Williams told Entertainment Tonight. "A large part of what we're doing through this grieving process is giving and spending time focusing on others."

He also thanked the friends and fans who have shared their grief and condolences, and said, "The outpouring was remarkable. People shared their supportive words, art, and all sorts of amazing tributes to my father."
