Robin Williams' 'A Merry Friggin' Christmas' Co-Star Joel McHale: 'I Will Miss Him Terribly'

Joel McHale has shared his experience playing the son of the late Robin Williams in the recently released comedy film "A Merry Friggin' Christmas."

"It was something I always dreamed of and when I got to do it, it couldn't have been a better experience," McHale told ABC News adding that Williams was "so amazing and so giving and kind and cool" and "everything you want in meeting one of your heroes."

McHale described the way the world loved Williams "pretty rare" and said attending his funeral was "one of the sadder things" he has been to in a long time.

"I will miss him terribly. He was one of those guys, if he weren't even an actor, I'd be like, 'I love that guy!'" McHale added.

"I'm really happy with the cut of the film. I hope he would be, too," he added referring to their movie "A Merry Friggin' Christmas," which is one of the last projects Williams ever filmed.

Directed by Tristam Shapeero and written by Michael Brown, "A Merry Friggin' Christmas" tells a story about a dysfunctional family that has to spend Christmas together.

Joining McHale and Williams in the cast are Lauren Graham, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Oliver Platt, Pierce Gagnon, Jeffrey Tambor, Clark Duke, Matt Jones, Amir Arison, Ryan Lee, Tim Heidecker, Candice Bergen, Amara Miller, Parisa Johnston and Bebe Wood, among others.

"I wouldn't have been surprised if he were very animated most of the time," Graham told Hit Fix. She plays McHale's wife in the comedy film.

For Graham, Williams was "on the other side" like many comic actors she has known. She said he was "thoughtful and introspective and had good ideas" and was "just a really normal dude and super smart."

Meanwhile, McHale was recently confirmed to continue hosting "The Soup" until 2016. The 42-year-old actor-host is repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham, according to Variety.

The weekly satirical reality TV series airs on E! and is produced by Wilshire Studios.
