Comic Tig Notaro showed her double mastectomy scars when she performed half-naked at Town Hall in New York City, the New York Times reported.

The 43-year-old stand-up comedian described at the recent New York Comedy Festival how she was patted down at airport security because the staff doubted whether or not she was really female.

When she unbuttoned her jacket, some members of the audience cheered.

"Did you not hear the story I was just telling?" Notaro asked. "You know, it's funny. I was going to do this show with my shirt off, anyway. I'm about one more 'Whoo' away from going topless."

Right after getting more cheers from the audience, Notaro then ripped her shirt open. She stood topless in front of hundreds of people wearing only jeans for the last 20 to 30 minutes of her performance, according to Chortle.

Notaro barely mentioned her being half-naked but she commented on the audience waiting for her to put her clothes back on. She said, "I'm very aware that people are like, 'When's she gonna...?' I'm not gonna."

This is not the first time Notaro was topless during a stand-up comedy performance. In October, she did the same stunt at a show at the club Largo in Los Angeles.

In 2012, Notaro underwent double mastectomy with no reconstructive surgery after she was diagnosed with cancer in both breasts. She then discussed during a stand-up performance a series of tragic events that took place before the successful operation, according to Huffington Post.

"My mother passed away unexpectedly, a freak accident. I got off of a relationship shortly after that, and then I was diagnosed with cancer. This was all in four months," Notaro recalled.

Louis C.K. was present during that show and he was so moved by Notaro's story that he took to Twitter to praise his fellow comic.

"In 27 years doing this, I've seen a handful of truly great, masterful standup sets. One was Tig Notaro last night at Largo," he tweeted.
