Universal Pictures and Illusion Entertainment released the first trailer for their upcoming 2015 movie spinoff "Minions" Monday on YouTube, Movie Pilot reported.
"Minions have been on this planet far longer than we have," the trailer said. "They all share the same goal: to serve the most despicable master around."
"Minions" is a spinoff to the "Despicable Me" franchise in which the titular characters, the yellow, pint-sized, pill-shaped minions, were first seen. Now in their own movie, the trailer shows the minions' search for a master to serve, which does not end successfully as they sent a Tyrannosaurus Rex falling into lava, dropped a pyramid on a pharaoh, blew up Napoleon himself and more.
As the trailer said, "Finding a master was easy. Keeping a master; that's where things got tricky."
Following their failed attempts, three of the minions, Kevin, Stuart and Bob, decided to venture forth to find the most despicable villain their tribe could serve. The trio eventually found themselves in New York City in 1968, or 42 years B.G., Before Gru, the master they served in the original "Despicable Me" franchise.
Universal Picture also released artwork and the official synopsis for the film last Oct. 28, according to the Flickering Myth. The poster showed the trio and the synopsis talked about their upcoming adventure.
The synopsis read "The trio embarks upon an adventure that ultimately leads them to their potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock), the world's first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind... from annihilation."
The film is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, and will feature the voices of Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney and Steve Googan.
"Minions" is set to hit theaters on July 10, 2015.
